What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device through your browser. They allow the website to recognise your browser on later requests, remember choices you made and keep signed-in sessions secure. Session cookie

A cookie that is deleted automatically when you close your browser.

Why Sociology Daily uses cookies

Sociology Daily is available at https://sociologydaily.com and publishes sociological analysis, educational material, commentary and research explanations. The cookies used on this website serve limited, practical purposes:

Strictly necessary and WordPress functional cookies

The website is built on WordPress. WordPress sets a small number of functional cookies that are needed for the site to work correctly. These cookies do not track you for marketing purposes and, for ordinary readers, most of them are only relevant when an account or comment feature is used.

• Cookie check: on the login page, WordPress sets a test cookie to confirm that your browser accepts cookies before allowing a sign-in.
• Login and session cookies: when an administrator, editor or registered user signs in, WordPress sets authentication cookies that keep the session secure and identify the signed-in account.
• Admin interface cookies: for signed-in users, WordPress stores interface preferences such as dashboard settings for up to about a year.
• Commenter cookies: if comments are enabled and you tick the option to save your details, WordPress remembers your name, email and website so they are filled in next time.

The hosting and caching layer (Hostinger and LiteSpeed Cache) may also set or vary cookies needed for request routing, page caching and security. These are operational cookies; they are not used to profile visitors.

Preference cookies and local storage

A small number of first-party technologies remember how you like to read the site. They are set by Sociology Daily itself and do not contain your name, email address or any other directly identifying information:

• Reading mode: the sdTheme local-storage entry remembers whether you selected light or dark mode.
• Article view counting: a short-lived sd_viewed_[article ID] cookie prevents the same browser session from repeatedly increasing an article’s view count.

You can remove these at any time by clearing your browser’s cookies and site data. Removing them only means the site will forget your preference or count a further page view again.

Analytics and third-party cookies

Current position: no analytics or advertising cookies

Sociology Daily does not currently run a third-party analytics service (such as Google Analytics) and does not use advertising, remarketing or social-media tracking cookies. Our understanding of readership comes from first-party article view counts and standard server logs, which are not used to build advertising profiles.

Third-party requests that are not cookies

The theme may request font files (Newsreader, Source Sans 3 and IBM Plex Mono) from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches those files, Google receives standard connection information such as your IP address and browser details under its own privacy terms, but font delivery does not itself set a cookie on this website.

Embedded content

Articles may embed content from third parties—for example videos, social posts or documents. Embedded content behaves as though you visited the third-party website directly: that provider may set its own cookies and collect data according to its own policies. Sociology Daily does not control those cookies. If you wish to avoid them, you can block third-party cookies in your browser (see Managing cookies).

If we introduce a non-essential analytics or measurement service in the future, this policy and the cookie table will be updated before or when it is activated, and consent will be requested where the law requires it.

The table below lists the cookies and similar technologies that may be set when you use Sociology Daily, depending on the features you use. Durations are typical values; exact lifetimes can vary with browser and configuration.

The contact form (Contact Form 7) does not set cookies of its own. The hosting provider or a security layer may set short-lived operational cookies for request routing, load management or abuse prevention; where this happens, they are treated as strictly necessary.

How to manage or disable cookies

Most browsers let you view, block or delete cookies, and many let you block third-party cookies while keeping first-party ones. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may affect sign-in, comment and preference features, but the public articles will normally remain readable.

• Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies (or “Cookies and other site data” to see and delete stored cookies).
• Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.
• Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data, with Enhanced Tracking Protection controls above it.
• Apple Safari (macOS): Safari → Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data, and the option to block all cookies.
• Safari (iOS): Settings → Safari → Block All Cookies and Advanced website-data controls.
• Android Chrome: Chrome → Settings → Site settings → Cookies.

You can also delete cookies already stored on your device at any time through the same settings. Deleting cookies signs you out of websites and resets stored preferences. If your browser offers a “clear site data” option for sociologydaily.com, using it removes the cookies and local-storage entries listed in this policy.

Do Not Track

“Do Not Track” (DNT) is a browser signal asking websites not to track the visitor. There is currently no common industry standard for how websites must respond to DNT, and this website does not respond to the signal in a specific technical way. In practice, however, Sociology Daily does not track you across websites, does not build behavioural profiles and does not use advertising cookies—so the substance of what DNT asks for already applies to your visit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when website features, plugins, service providers or legal requirements change. The revised page will show an updated “Last updated” date. If a change introduces new non-essential cookies, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain consent where required before activating them.
